I don't know about your battery, but when I went to Autozone to buy a new battery they looked it up in their computer (87 535i) and gave me what their computer recommended. Guess what... it came with a vent and a hose to route the vented gas. Don't know if this is what it is supposed to be but I always figured it was what was recommended. If your battery doesn't have a vent maybe it's not correct? Maybe mine isn't correct with the vent? Common should always be applied when working on your vehicle. Besides, 'cause of lawsuits, I'm sure that the manufacturer of the battery relocator kit has a disclaimer to what you've mentioned.

Aren't you supposed to have a special vented battery? One that vents the fumes out of the trunk with a hose? I don't think it's a good idea to put a conventional battery in an enclosed space.
