Would a turbo from a m21 fit my car? My 535i has 137,000 on it. would it be a good idea yes or no and why .
josh thx

Josh,

I don't know if the turbo would fit from the M21. You would need the exhaust manifolds, " this is what needs to fit " plus the turbo. New exhaust, etc. The other problem is controlling the boost to prevent pinging and engine destruction. You could retrofit a boost controller from a Turbo Saab to do this, plus add intercooling.
Checkout www.turbobricks.org for what the Volvo guys do to get more from the Brick. Some crazy Volvo guys are getting as much as 500 hp from 2.3 liters.

Turbo cars built by the OEM's typically have lower compression pistons and numerous other changes to help them live.

Case in point, my significant drives an '89 760 Intercooled Turbo Wagon. The head is different, has silicon filled exhaust valves, beefed up lower end, oil cooler, higher stall torque converter, etc. Car is deceptively quick once off the line.

In my opinion, if you want to go the turbo route based on the mileage your car has you would need to rebuild it. Better solution if you want a real sleeper. Find a 745i with a good engine. I've been told this is a 4.5 liter factory turbo car.

By the time you bought everything yourself, you could buy the package from Karmon.
