Just follow it. Buying a Bentley manual and some basic tools will give you a big start. Also, for new OEM BMW parts, I have found JAC Enterprises to have incredible savings on the same parts the dealer sells. Go to their website: www.parts4bmw.com (I don't have any affiliation with them, I've just bought stuff and am extremely pleased to have found them.)
If you're willing to get your hands dirty, and maybe even find someone willing to show you some basics, you'll be surprised at what you can do yourself... especially on brakes...
