any thoughts on stress bars? (archive)

Have an 87 535is with stock suspension (so far), 5 sp with 3.73 rear and 225/50/16 tires. Is a stress bar purely cosmetic or will it help handling with the added stresses of the larger tires? Any thoughts? Any favorites? When I get around to replacing the sway bars with larger bars and replacing the stock bilsteins and springs with new ones will it make a difference. Mostly street drive but occasionally do schools or autocrosses. thanks Pete
