I assume you're talking about the fresh air fan motor, which you can see if you open the hood and look behind the firewall cover at the base of the windshield.

If this motor doesn't work on any fan settings, there are several possibilities. In the order I'd check them:
-Check fuse 14.
-Check the A/C selector switch.
-Check the fan switch.

Fuse 14 is probably good, because your A/C fan motor works, but it's easy to check.

The A/C selector switch determines which fan motor will be used. You can push this switch out of its socket from behind if you remove the driver's kick panel. Careful back there- don't cut yourself. Once you've removed the switch, there should be continuity between terminals 1 and 5 on the switch when A/C is not selected. If not, the fresh air fan won't work. I've opened and cleaned this switch, but it's not easy- there are spring-loaded small parts which jump out at you.

To get at the fan switch, you have to remove the center console, which is why it's last on my list. See Bentley. Good luck.

grape,86 528e beater, latest problem is that fan switch doesnt work for heater fan. a/c fan sw functions normally. the motor itself works when 12volts is applied. is this switch easily removed and replaced? or is something else the problem? havent dug out the Bentley yet, figured i try you guys 1st,TIA
