The coil has three terminals, labeled 1, 4, and 15. Pin 4 is the center tower of the coil. With all the wires disconnected, the resistance between pins 1 and 15 should be 0.5 ohms. Between pin 15 and pin 4 the resistance should be 6000 ohms.

When the car is running, or cranking, 12V should be supplied constantly to pin 15. Pin 1 is controlled by the Motronic unit.

Caz,
First, buy a Bentley manual. Then, using a multimeter set for the correct range in ohms, check the resistance on the primary (center) and secondary terminals of your Bosch coil. Be sure to disconnect the leads from the terminal. Sorry, I don't have my manual handy at the moment or I'd provide you with the "in range" values. Perhaps someone else has them near by.
