In Reply to: can an e36 M3 engine go in a e28? posted by Sonny on December 10, 2000 at 17:05:55:

I have gotten quotes from both for just dropping the car off and picking it up with the M3 drivetrain.. As for the M60 V-8, there are other issues, like the fact that no e-28 ever had exhaust routed on the drivers side of the engine compartment. Either way, if you have someone else do it, you're looking at over $8k. (motor included). Upside to all of it? With a 3.46 or 3.64 rear, you can have a car that is as fast or faster straightline than an E-36.. Which would be fun if you left the "e" badges on. If you want to go crazy, I believe that the V-12 would fit as well. (it too, fits in an e-30...) Please let us know if you get it done.

I was wondering if it was possible to place an e36 M3 engine into my 1984 528e. I have seen a Bravaria with an e34 M5 engine and I have seen many e30s with e36 M3 engines. Any advice you have would be helpful.
