Every state in which I have had to have my car inspected has made me remove the H1/H4 lights then return for reinspection (standing in line for hours each time).

It is always accompanied by a lecture on how non-sealed beams are dangerous because the reflectors and lenses get clouded.

I guess it is lost on them that 98% of new cars come with NON-sealed beams (but DOT approved).

The Hellas would pass muster IF they used gasketed bulbs and submitted them for DOT approval.

Damn, that was a quick reply.

No, sorry, you have to go to a Euro auto parts store or mail order them from Turner, BMP, Bav Auto, or similar place. The best that Pep Boys has is something like a Halogen H5004 and H5001. They're OK, but not nearly as good as the H-1 and H-4. However, the H-1 and H-4 are not US DOT legal, but who the hell cares? They're better than US lights, but since our government is in the 1950s when it comes to automobile technology, we don't get the better Euro lighting.
