I have removed almost NEW KYBs from customers' cars because they were bone jarring stiff.

I'd just put on some decent struts and enjoy the ride. Most folks who have tried Monroe SensiTrack struts like them very well and you can get a set of four for well under $170 when CarParts.com has one of their regular 30% off sales.

I put a set on my 535is about 6 months ago, and they ride well and handle just as well as the Bilsteins (until one sprung a leak)they replaced. I've got //M5s to Corvettes out there with these shocks and all have been pleased. If the Monroe name offends you you can paint them yellow (and swear they are Bilstein), or use Boge, which are good for the price as well. If you want better handling, go for bigger sway bars.

I am in need of new shocks and struts for my otherwise stock '88 528e. I may be opening up a can of worms on this forum by asking this but...are KYB gas shocks/struts any good on a stock 528e?
