most of the guys here are purists (to a point).

Actually, you COULD put 20" tires on if you can find the right offset (Call Tire Rack), but the suspension on the e28 isn't good enough to use the tires unless you kill the body roll with stiff sway bars.

Then, there is the lack of tire compliance in the 20" that wasn't taken into account with the e28 design (flexing bushings, etc.).

If you are into "styling" rather than handling, go for it, but for handling, I would stick with more reasonable tires unless you are willing to do some suspension mods as well.

I just bought an 86 535i in great shape and i really want to put 20-inch chrome wheels on it. is this possible ? would i have to modify anything?

ps ( how much $ could i get for 4 15 inch borbet wheels in great shape?)
