I am not sure what the "kidneys" are, but the bumpers are anodized aluminum and can be painted if you scuff them up a bit with a Scotchbrite pad, then prime them with epoxy primer (2 part type/not spray can), then a satin finish black paint.

If you plan on removing the paint, you might want to skip the Scotchbrite pad (since the scratches will show when the paint is removed) and scrub the aluminum with BonAmi powder to remove any surface contaminents and then prime. It won't stick QUITE as well, but should be fine.

BTW, since the finish is anodized, you don't need to use a zinc chromate or self etching primer as you would with pure or alclad aluminum alloys.

Hey what would i have to do in order to paint the bumper of my 1986 535i black? right now its silver but i want to paint the kidneys and front bumper black to match my car. is there a kit or something any compaines sell? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
