I decided to start the swap with the pedal cluster since I'd still be able to drive the car. However, I discovered that the E24 pedal cluster frame is significantly different dimensionally and won't fit. It's not just a matter of drilling new holes in the frame -- the E24 part is longer, taller, and forms a different angle from firewall to dash support. I suppose I could cut the clutch spring bracket off the E24 piece and weld it on to the E28 bracket, along with the captive nuts for the clutch master cylinder, but I'd rather not.
This problem raises other questions. Will the aluminum shift console fit? How about the driveshaft and transmission mounts? I don't want to find out the hard way when I've got everything torn out instead of just the steering column and pedal cluster. I haven't had a chance to call Bimmerworld on this, but I wanted to get some info from those of you who have experience in this area before I contact them. TIA.
