i had a 97 328i and i had the same question to my advisor.he told me the computer takes into account the style of driving,start-stops,etc.so if you drive your car hard through the city it will need service sooner than if you drive in a more mild manner.but if your indicators havent moved at all maybe there is room for concern.hope i helped.

I have a 2000 528i - now has 16500 miles on it, but as yet I have not had an indication that service is required. This bothers me for a number of reasons. One is the possibility that there is something wrong with the service required indicator, and my warranty will be nailed. Also, how do I plan a road trip for several hundred miles, when I am concerned that service indicator is imminently going to illuminate? I am impressed with everything about this car, except the variable manitenance program. Comments welcome! ROry Kay Warrenton VA

iposted a similar query that got lost in a rant about the x-5. i have heard that bmw has extended the oil change interval to 15k miles. is this true? how is this done? with synthetics and special filters? inquiring minds want to know. in about 10 years or so when i can afford a 2000 528i i want one with good oil pressure.im getting worried. doesnt sound like theyll be any left.
