I saw uuc offering their shortshifter for $155 and the Derlin bearing is a extra $25 and has 35% shorter. Turnermotor sport is ofering what seem to be the sam thing for $195 and the same shifter with the bearing is like $100 more! What is up with that?

Just redid the shifter on our '86 535 using the '02 shift lever as others have done. All other parts I just replaced with std. BMW issue parts, bearings etc. and the net effect on throw is about the same as all the expensive kits out there. THe lever was about $16=/- and all the other parts amounted to about $20+/-, for everything.
The new feel is good and the throw is a lot shorter. Should last another 100K!
Good Luck,

Tom M in PA
