You'd think BMW could've designed the hydraulic system so the accumulator (the "brake bomb") on 533i/535i models would assist with the power steering. Would the current accumulator be big enough to compensate for belt slippage when the pullies get wet?

How difficult would it be to make this happen? Theoretically, you could replace the hydraulic brake assist with a vacuum unit, then use the brake assist hydraulics for the power steering. Or, you could engineer a custom hydraulic power flow regulator to replace the current unit- one that used the accumulator on both the brake and steering circuits. Either way, that leaves the question of whether the accumulator would make any difference for the steering problem. Any hydraulic engineers out there?

It's the belt slipping. I had the same problem in puddles and in snow. I just gave the adjuster a turn or two and all is well.
