Any e28 can easily be made to handle like an M5 for NOT a lot of money, but YOU have to decide how much power you need to be happy.

Anywhere from 121hp (528e) to 256 (M5) are out there. Personally, the budget priced 528e is NOT that slow for the price.

I am interested in a late 80's 5 series and do not know much about them. I have spent most of my time on my 2002's so any pointers on which to look for and what to watch out for would be helpful. I am located in Southern New Hampshire and would be interested in hearing about any 5- series that are up for sale in the New England area, I would love an M5 but the price is keeping me away. Thanks, Joe

depends a lot on what kind of usage the car will see. ive put 75k miles 60 miles at a time running my 88 528e auto into boston. best commuter ive ever owned. someday i hope to get my 88 535is roadworthy, but it would be more of a weekender.
