You may want to check the archives on this one. I recently had a problem that sounds very similar to yours. Mine sounded like zinging/grinding on the initial start happened once or twice then started normally. I was worried that I may be grinding away the ring gear on my fly wheel. Coincidentially my clutch went out basicly within days of my escalating concern. Turned out the flywheel was OK but the starter was going bad.........the zinging sound is the solenoid working intermittantly. If you have a local auto electric shop in your city they can check it on your car and probably even do a rebuild as mine did. Check the archives for further info but don't go too long before affecting a repair or your flywheel WILL be damaged.

Jeff
