A lightened flywheel is fine for every day;adds faster throttle response. The best I know, and reasonably priced, is Jim Rowe's program at Metric Mechanic;he does an excellent job, often by sending the new flywheel and a core charge exchange,so the car isn't tied up.Loved mine.
Ask him about head work and a special exhaust;my '86 he did over with a Schrick cam was just plain scary.
You seem determined to build a single cam M5;not a bad goal.
I have installed a custom Paeco made 9 lb aluminium flywheel on my daily driver w/the sachs HD clutch.
I've had no problems in the last 4+ years of use with this setup and the car still idles at 750-850 rpm just fine.
The car is noticable quicker though.....
Cost?? $550 for flywheel and $400 for the clutch. So it's not cheap!
