Hi Joe,

I've got both and I commend your choice of a 5. I have an '88 528e auto that I like alot, but given what I know now, I would have bought a 535, or at least a 528 with a manual tranny. Also, no timing belt on a 535--this is good!

So I suggest a 535--about the same price as a 528 but much higher fun factor. I recently drove an '88 M5--it is the best handling and fastest car I have ever driven, BUT big $$. Stay away if it is going to be your daily driver.

You might want to contact Alex Vogel of AVA Restoration. He is in Dublin, NH--phone number is 603-563-8910. He deals mostly with '02s, 320s, and Alfas, but he occasionally has a line on e28s.

As always, research, especially rust points on a NE car.

Good luck,

Peter
