I was told by my local dealership (Santa Monica, CA) that BMW no longer makes the tall leather shifter knob. If you are able to find one left over at a dealership buy it. I was told that a shorter plastic knob is still being made. The leather knob found on the e30 325is will fit and actually feels pretty good.

You may want to try transferring the BMW roundel from a different shifter in place of the one you currently have if that is what you want for your end result.
