temp/time etc. computer dead... (archive)

I started my car this evening after work, and for the first time ever, the computer readout with the mpg, clock, date, temp. etc. was completely black. Any ideas on why this would happen and how I can fix it? Also, any ideas on why a bell dings when the temperure is 36 degrees?
