I have replaced, in the last year (not necessarily because of this problem): The ECU, all relays, all fuses, all vacuum lines, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor, valve adjust. Checked and cleaned the crank position sensor and the engine speed sensor (both checked out good electrically). Checked the resistance of the temp sensor, cold and hot, and it is fine. Maybe some other things I am forgetting.

Very surprised you changed the ECU. Did you check the throttle switch? If it's stuck in the idle position, I believe it will choke the motor, or at least make it run very rich as you go off idle.

Also, did you clean the injectors? You could also check the various sensor values at the Motronic connector (for broken wires, etc). Lastly, if you decide to replace it, why buy a new AFM? They can be had used fairly cheap.
