When I was just a wee pup -mean old car freak dad would lock me in the trunk of the BMW and shower the trunk with the family garden hose. I sat inside miserable -but holding a flashlight inspecting for water leak entrance trails.

If it turns out to be trunk, tag light, or tail light seals - they're all available reasonably:

trunk seal $46.00
tail light seals, each $11.00
