et 18, 17x8.5 wheels??????? (archive)

Do you guys think they will fit an 1988 535is? I found them at discount tire and they look like the BBS RK's! I called yesterday and the guy said the 8.5 is too wide for the front. I called today and another guy said they will bolt right on and that they were made for the older BMW's and I will not have any problems in the front because the 18mm offset it just right for my car???
