There is often a strong smell of petrol inside the car. This often occurs soon after starting up, but not always. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. My mechanic things the "o" rings need replacing, but he's just guessing. Isn't there a special test that can be performed to determine where the leak is from? Surely this exists at BMW??

I have had this problem as well on top of the engine closest to the fire wall drivers side there is the fuel rail with a hose that runs to a round valve and then back under the brake ms i found that the hose clamps had worked loose at the fuelrail location just described if that popped loose i suppose fire would be next in the chain fo events I've tighten this more than once and now i inspect this connection regularly hop this helps peter 84 533i

That same hose you mention is notorius for leaking and smelling.
