Secondary to that would to be to test for vacuum leaks....injector seal leaks etc....but do check out the thermal time switch first. Good luck.

1988 528e. Usually starts up well when it is cold, but when I am sitting in traffic in drive, the idle goes up and down. So, I'll put it in Neutral and it appears to idle fine. When it warms up it also idles pretty good. For some reason, it always seems to run rough right after I start it and start to drive. Any ideas?
