Sounds like a bad A/C switch. To test the switch, remove it, set it to A/C, and check for continuity between pins 3 and 5. Pin 5 goes to power and pin 3 goes to the A/C blower motor.
A replacement switch is $32 from bavauto.com. You could be cheap like me, and pry it apart and clean it, but be warned- it's got spring-loaded small parts that will jump out at you and make a run for freedom.
I have an A/C question.
On my 1987 535is, the A/C doesn't work!
Here is what happens...
The fan for fresh air and heat works fine as do all the flaps. When I press the A/C button, the fan stops, the a/c button does not light up and nothing happens.
I am thinking the switch is bad or a fuse. The fuse under the hood in the fuse box is OK.
Am I wrong, where should I look to next?
If it were the A/C, wouldn't the A/C fan still blow?
