You really can't lose for the $500.00 initial investment. Even if it ends up being a total bomb, you could probably part it out or keep it for future frankenstein projects. Also, I wouldn't rate the vehicles upkeep by the interior as these cars are not known for a great "fit and finish" for the interior longevity.
My 87 528e with 235K was previously owned by a local Doc who had absolutely perfect service records, but the interior was pretty beat. Cracked, faded, inoperable power goodies, stained headliner, etc.
Good Luck on your decision, let us know if ya' get it!
BTW I paid 2,500 for my 87 528e about months ago with 231K.
