Clutch pedal eccentric bolt adjustment (archive)

I'm having a bit of difficulty since having disassembled the clutch pedal to piston arm assembly. It seems as if the pedal is mushy (even after bleeding) for the first few inches and then is tight for only another maybe two or three inches. After some use, the pedal won't disengage the clutch and I can't move the shifter into gear. It seems like I can adjust the eccentric bolt connecting the arm to the pedal, but I can't seem to get it to stay in that position, despite "torqing the hell out of it" (which will cause stripping, breaking, etc.). has anyone ever had to adjust their clutch pedal (or return spring, etc.)? Any suggestions? Thanks. -Tony
