Came out on Lawerence from the Subway(food shop) with the E39 behind me. He zooms around me at warp speed to the stoplight before 101. I saw a E39 behind me but didn't look well enough to see it was and ///M5 until he went by. I pull up beside him, were both first at the light. The gent has a friend in the car and I give him the thumbs up. He wasn't watching. I turn and the signal is green, he hammers it pretty hard. I was caught off guard and by the time I get going, I'm toast. At the 2nd light over the freeway, were first in line again. I roll down my window and say "nice car, we should go again". He says OK. This time, I'm ready, I still have the window open, I drop the hammer and give it the best launch I can. As I pull away, I hear he has stalled the car in first and is left way behind. 2 down.
At the next light, were side by side again, first again. We chat again at the red, He tells me while the car is fast, he wishes Dinan made a forced induction system for the ///M5(Since he saw the Dinan badge on my car, I'm sure). I tell him that point I have a Dinan turbo sytem on my car and maybe in a yr they may come up with somthing for the E39 ///M5. He agrees. So at the green, were both ready, off we go. He dosen't miss this time, were both to the floor and this is were a NA car with 400hp and 360lb-ft(most availible at low RPM) really hurt me. He gets 2 car lengths ahead of me before the boost starts really launching my car. The low end torque of the NA engine works really well. We hold steady at that point until the next light. I can't catch up.
Theres lots of traffic now, and we get in line, him first, me second. This is the last light before 237 on ramp east bound. Vvvrooom, off we go to the on ramp to see who can get on first. He was first, so a big advantage, and he does get there first. As we bend on to the on ramp, theres two lanes here, one normal and one carpool. He's in the outside carpool and I'm on the inside normal. Heres where a 30yr only suspension design really falls down to a modern multi-link suspension with traction control and DSC. Hes able to hold at least ~10mph faster through the on-ramp then my E28 with Dinan Stg IV suspension. Sorry, no contest at all, game over. He's 20 car lengths ahead as we merge into traffic at ~100mph. At that point theres too much traffic for me to catch up, plus I'm getting off at the 2nd exit at N. First St. I wave goodbye but hes so far ahead I'm sure he can't see it.
Lots of fun, but now I think I need to run another 6psi and get 275/35 on the rear of my car somehow???
