I am about to drive cross country to L.A. and am curious on your recomendations for an over all check of the car before taking off. Besides the normal oil, trans, tires and belts what should I have checked out to assure I have a safe trip. As of now she runs great in the city and made it from Memphis to Atlanta with no problems. Thank you
I have driven cross the country many times with old E12 BMW's. The last time was when I picked up my 81' M535i in Virginia and traversed to Washingtion state.
As you mentioned check belts, hoses all fluids etc.
I would also recommend checking the brakes (especially the rear pads which never seem to get changed). Do the brake fluid too, and your car will be enternally grateful...
Bring some electrical spares like fuel pump relay, plug wires, bulbs and fuses etc.
Don't forget to check the spare tire....
PS: Don't forget lots of TOOLS and a decent manual.
