The sound system consisted of speakers on the parcel shelf, labeled "BMW Sound System," speakers in the footwells, and tiny speakers in the doors near the side mirrors. This system came with an amplifier in the trunk, mounted under the parcel shelf, near the left rear speaker and above the wheelwell.
I've read many posts that mention a stock amp in e28s. In a 1983 533i, does the factory sound system have an amplifier somewhere in the trunk? If so, exactly where is it located? Thanks in advance
The "premium" sound system, available as an option on /528e/535i's in '86+,and standard in '87/88 535is cars(also in the M3 and e30 later cars) consists of an Alpine 15W cassette head unit, separate fader switch in all but the e30's,mated to a Blaupunkt amp mounted under the rear shelf in the trunk, and running 8 speakers...front tweeters by the side mirrors, front kick panel bass, and a set of tweeters and bass speakers each side on the rear parcel shelf,in one raised unit.Radios from 1987 on also had the weather band.Later 1990/91 e30 units also had a balance control built in,lacking in the 535is units.
Just today was able to update my system('87 535is) with a 1991 e30 head unit, having the balance control, and better faceplate controls than my earlier version, courtesy of Felix Vicente, who was nice enough to bring me the unit 40 miles from Miami, gratis, while still on crutches.....Thanks,Felix.
