any thoughts on an '84 318i with 240,000 miles? (archive)

They guy selling it says the body is in great shape. Tranny is 1 year old and rear differential is relatively new. He wants $700 for the car. If it drives well, should I go for it? He has had the car for 3 years and does not have any maintenance records. Any suggestions are appreciated.
