I realize that this debate often comes up on the bmw list and gets some heated debate, but I'm wondering, does it really matter? And how can one prove it that really makes a difference. I mean how much difference could a little warmer air from the engine compartment make to the engine output 1-2 hp? We are not talking about a big difference in temp here 40-50' maybe? Nor are we talking about turbo charging where the air is heated AFTER being compressed, so it NEEDS to be cooled. Well...just wondering.Scottie
535i w/ K&N cone right above the headers.
PS - FWIW, I had a Jeep Wagoneer with a 400ci V8, hooker headers, and an Edlebrock 650cfm carb and a round K&N filter on top of the carb. That thing could suck more air and fuel on one 4-wheel smoky burnout than my BMW 3.5 could suck on an entire trip to the market and it never seemed to be starving for air...
