upper and lower covers and see where it came from. Usually these secure the locking steering column security device so thieves cannot remove it to readily steal a car.
The steering wheel won't come off, but you don't want the ignition lock falling off or the locking pawl engage the column at speed, either.

I hit a bump (pothole) at about 40 miles an hour and felt this thing hit my leg. I see underneath the steering column where it went, but it appears to have the head broke off or something. What is it used for and do I need it put back in? Thanks for your help.
