Check your differential mount.It's at the rear/top of the differential.Four bolts hold the mount to the car&one large bolt holds the differential to the mount.Put a jack under the differential and see if you can lift it.$90-5 bolts-1/2 hour.
I just bought a 1986 528E. The seller told me he replaced the auto trans and the carrier bearing. On takeoff and shifting there is a thumping noise that sounds like it is under the center of the car. I doesn't feel like the trans is slipping. Could it be differential?
