Paul, remember that there were TWO engines available for euro M535i and 535i. There was the euro spec 218 bhp engine, and the USA catalyst equipped and speced 182 bhp engine. Another difference (other than exhaust) is the different DMEs between the two engines, emissions on the USA engine, and the non-catalyst engine had 10:1 compression ratio instead of 8:1 compression ratio. I have outlined the specs of the cars on my website, the M535i SIG. Remember, you have to compare euro spec to USA spec. There ARE differences.

...my manuals tell me that there is no difference except that the M car has a plastic body kit which looks a bit 'tacky'. Some people will tell you that the M version has more power but this is not true. Some spec. charts even show them to be the same!
