Ron,
The buzzing could be a problem with the ground. A signal from the ground of your head unit could be interfering with the ground from the amp.
To fix this zoom out to Radio Shack, or any car stereo store and buy a grounding unit, I forget the actual name, but it will connect at your amp. There are two main types available, one plugs into the amp input through RCA jacks. The second, which will most likely be best for you will work with the power input and ground. Just follow the supplied instructions, and in 15 min. you should be rocking once again.

In my 86 535i I replaced the amp and head unit at the same time. I went to the local dealer and they copied two pages of a book with schematics of the entire sound system. It told me what wires did what, I learned the stereo-amp has a common ground, BUT not the speakers. I ran RCA and new power cables to a 4-channel amp. From there I am using the old speaker wiring system.
I need to replace the door high ends, so I cannot comment on that other than to say I think it is in the Bentley manual, which I suggest strongly. I will most likely put a setup with a cross-over (an electronic device that sends the high pitch sounds to the smaller and the lower sounds to a larger speaker) in the front.
I am sure there is a dimmer wire, but my radio didn't have that ability.
I hope I have helped
