Hi All,
Just bought an 83 528 in good shape, but has a seriously sloppy shifter. So much so that to get in reverse, the shifter bangs into the center console side and is starting to leave a dent. Also does the same problem going into second. The dealer parts guy said it's either the upper bushings, or if that doesn't fix it,I would have to replace the whole gearshift lever. The Haynes manual doesn't get into enough detail to do this and I don't have a Bently. Do I have to remove the aluminum cover plate under the carpet matting(which is really glued in tight)or do I have to get to it from underneath the car? If you have done this yourself, I could really use your expertise right about now, as the dealer said it would only take an hour or two to do. I'm thinking I should be able to do this myself, right?
