What's up everybody? Yeah, I was just wondering if anyone else had a QUIRKY 5er like mine. For instance, when I got mine(85 535i) it had a relay that drained the battery dead, radio forgets presets(still does), headrest didn't go up and down, heater blower was rusted or something, factory cassette is wicked EVIL and practically refuses to play tapes unless force is applied, door locks are FRICKEN NUTS and go into unlock/lock cycle, drivers door must be shut in order to lock the car, ABS sensors are rusted(yet ABS works sometimes), trunk button just LOVES to not pop back out, right rear window falls into the door(once), original OBC lost its mind(replaced), new motor was replaced after only 5 years, e-brake must be pulled ALLLL the way back(with extreme force) in order to secure the car and the button was originally not visible(inside the lever), umm, TRX wheels(need I even say more), windows go up at .0000005 mph, I dunno.

Yeah, but what's the problem?

Seriously, it sounds like you got yourself an e28 that has been mistreated/nonmaintained during its life. Most of the stuff you mentioned is just stuff that is out of alignment or just needs to be fixed. You have to remember, these beasts are getting near 12-17 years old. Stuff has to be cleaned and maintained to ensure troublefree operation.

The drivers door locks do not lock when the door is open. It's supposed to work that way. Those nutty bavarians didn't want to lock themselves out.

Your trunk doesn't pop out because it's full of crud and needs to be cleaned/lubed. Same with the door lock/unlock. The microswitches in your doors are full of crud.

Your parking brake cables need adjusting. Your ABS sensors were never cleaned and the magnetic crap rusted them to death. Replace them. Slow windows, replace the old window tracks and clean/lube the mechanism.

As for the motor, did it fail with you as the owner? If so, why did it fail? These motors should last well into 200k miles without trouble.

Heater blower is easy to clean/lube. See a recent post for this fix.

The Alpine cassette decks...well...for granted, they just suck. :-)
