The radio is usually wired to the same circuit as the brake lights. Having the radio pop or even reset itself when you hit the brakes is a common problem. The usual advice is to thoroughly clean the fusebox and the cables at the battery, including the subsidiary power cables attached to the main cable. Some people rewire their radios to use a different circuit.

In my case, cleaning the fusebox didn't didn't solve the problem, and I wanted to keep the factory wiring layout. I ended up opening my radio and installing a capacitor across the 5V section of the electronics. That cured the problem, but I haven't heard of anyone else having to resort to such measures.

The archives seem to be down at the moment, so...

My radio (Nakamichi CD) pops whenever I step on the brakes, use a window, or turn it up fairly loud (pops intermittently then). It works fine, all the wiring is sound, and there are no shorts. Just replaced the stock radio with the Nak and rewired today, but it was doing it before I put the CD player in (i.e., with stock radio).

Any thoughts? I remember reading something about this in the archives.
Thanks

Sam
