I went and checked out some autocrossing action this weekend (my 2nd time) and had a blast! I was wondering how many of you 5-er drivers participate in auto-X? You see, I'm thinking about getting the 533i out there pretty soon. If anyone is willing to share their experiences of driving the e28 at an auto-X event, I would love to hear them. Perhaps some of you would be willing to share some of the upgrades and modifications you've had success with? Oh, one last thing...what classes are you guys or gals running in? Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You're right, autocrossing is a blast. I bought an 81 528i six years ago strictly because it was classed competitively (SCCA G Stock), against Taurus, Lumina, etc, and then the six-cyl Camaro, and brought home the local chapter class trophy two successive years. Stock class allows you to put on any rubber that will fir the stock size wheels (205/60R14 in my case), upgrade shocks, and change the front sway bar. These cars respond well to all that.
Then I had to start upgrading it (just had to, you understand) starting with a 535i engine, limited slip diff, lowered springs, and such. That changes the class to F Street Prepared, against similarly modified V-8 Camaro and Mustang, including a nationally competitive husband/wife team. The autocross drive is still a blast, but my only aim now is to shake down the mods I've done--no more trophys in this group.
So have fun--kill a cone for me.
