Easy to find out how fair any shop is on price. Every component of your car has a "flat rate" for R&R of any component. Most shops use the "flat rate" manual for guidance on removal and replacement of a component. This is the starting point, and then you multiply the "flat rate" (hours projected by the book for the job) times the hourly rate each shop charges. In theory, the only variable is the hourly rate for each shop.

When you ask for a quote on any replacement, never ask price. Always ask what the "flat rate" book shows for the time of the job. Calculate the repair from that. It's "flat rate" times "hourly rate", plus price of parts. Most shops won't let you bring in your own parts, because of the markup they make on parts.

In Theory that's the way it's supposed to work. Knowing that, you can call any number of shops and compare based on hourly rate, price of parts and time spent per the rate book. If you can't get it broken down that way, the something is probably not right in Scandahoovia!!!
