Having said that, install a cam, 9.5:1 pistons, and get a chip tuned by Jim C. As for the exhaust, you'll have to put out more than 225 HP to upgrade the existing system. It is rather quiet and hassle free. A custom system will not be so suave. Get a 3.45 or 3.73 diff.
$2500 for an engine rebuild is pretty good if it includes parts and labor, but don't expect a huge jump in power. MM's price on the 3500Hi-Flo ST Sport engine is actually quite reasonable, considering the level of modification. You get a reworked oil pump, water pump, cam, dual valve springs, ported head, high comp forged alloy pistons, lightweight wristpins, and countless items that you nor I would ever think of. They've been in the business for a while. Those that have the MM engines really like them. I've considered one for a long time, but I bought an M5 instead ;-)
