I should have made myself clear about the pricing. The $5000(closer to $4000, but you know how price quotes are) is for parts/labor for a complete rebuild on the 524td: welding and pressure testing the head, rebuild kit($900), new radiator, expansion tank, new starter, thermostats. The diesel injection pump was rebuilt last year so I would hope that it survived the frying of the engine. I never really got an answer from anyone about the reliablility of the weld job though. Also, where can I get an aftermarket radiator for the 524 for $180? Are they as good as the piece of junk Behr one that was OE? Also, I'm sure I can find another car for less than $4000, but I just happen to know what's wrong with this one and they would give me a warranty on the rebuild.
