I am thinking of buying a 1985 528e. And I am looking for opinions and things to look out for.
I am pretty handy when it comes to working on cars and I know that buying a car this old, it will need work from time to time.
This is what I know about the car
1985 528e, repainted (same bmw color) 5 years ago, 168k miles, automatic tranny, new front brakes, alternator, power steering, head rebuilt, never in an accident. The owner mentioned that sometimes there is a slight driveshaft vibration and priced a rebuilt? driveshaft for $400 locally.
Any opinions and or feedback, good or bad is welcome.
James My name is shane and just recently I purchiced a 1987 528e. When i bought the car it had 149,000 miles on it. Even though I'm a fairly handy guy when it comes to cars I took it strait to a machanic. He told me that the enginge dosnt even begin to wear until about 160,000, if the prervious owner mantanatced it on time. So the first thing you should do is try to find where he gets his oil changed and see if you cant find some records. Then have the A.T and the compression checked it's worth the $50.00
Under stand that BMW are one of the finest cars on the road but you can not neglect them.also if you read this post he price on youre next letter.
Good Luck, SHANE BOWMEN
