Can anybody help with an episodic problem in '86 535 5 speed?
Suddenly when driving power drops back to idle speed- with no power above idle (which is steady). Sometimes full throttle will bring back power.Other times I restart engine with throttle on floor and it starts.
Car has full power and nothing to suggest a fuel delivery problem. When in this "mode" it starts easily but pressing accelerator will not increase revs but actually slows revs.
? sticking air flow meter. Revs change when I lift oil
dipstick so I assume there are no air leaks.

Thanks,

Gerry

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

WAG: a similar problem happened with my old '86 and the problem was very simple... i was out of gas! my fuel level sending unit had decided to not work correctly and all of the sudden my foot was on the floor and the car was studdering like crazy and eventually cut off. the rest of the senerio was exactly the same. Are you positive that the fuel pressure regulator is not acting up? Are all six fuel injectors spraying correctly? like i said... wag! good luck
