I am going to rebuild a motor and I have done some research but I need the input from the veterans. I would like to hear from anyone who has done any rebuilds. I am considering the popular e34 535i motor or the 89 635 motor. My question is, are the blocks on the e25 535i identical to the 89 635 and e34 535i's, or are they different? If there are no differences I was thinking I could just redo the head, bore, port, pistons, cam etc., of a e34 535i or a 89 635 and swap the ecu and harness. If the blocks are different please let me know the differences and I would like to hear what the best route to take will be. What hp/torque gains and differences between the e34 and 635 project are, if there are any. I thought they were both 10:1 but I a need to know from you guys who really know what they are talking about. No offense to any one trying to help, but I just want hard facts and no oppinions or " I think the etc. .....". I do not want to cry at the dyno when I am finished. I am assuming I will not have to change the drive train or transmission, but if I am wrong please let me know.
Finally, any other important info and/or experiences are greatly appreciated and I really would like to hear about your projects. Thanks for the time and help, Tim Atl. 87 535i
