Several years ago I used a MSD set-up on a 67 Maserati with a 4lt inline 6 w/twin plugs and mechanical FI. The rings were worn and the MSD really helped the car to start quickly and run smoothly.
Given that our BMW engines are perhaps hindered by the quirks of the engine management system the MSD type ignition may help get rid of the occasional stumble and flat spots, but I don't know you'll see a difference in power output.
