Jeff, I also battled this problem for a while and also like a true southern gentleman, I wouldn't give in either. After replacing the front end in its entirety(necessary) i still had a shimmy although less pronounced. Not to be out done, I installed the urethane bushings I bought from BMP and the shimmy was almost gone now. But it was still a bit noticeable. Seeing as I had old after market Enkie rims, I decided to replace with OEM e39 rims. They arrived complete with the hubcentric rings...and VIOLA!!!! Completely gone! Of course the quality of the tire weighs in here somewhere as well. The balance of the wheel/tire assembly is just a few things to think about. I hope you find the ailment.

Hey .This problem has been around awhile and now it has become a matter of HONOR {U know how us southern boys are about that} to figure this thing out without takin the car to the dealer or other repiar shop {ill take it to br aligned if someone can convince me it is out}Im not sure how to determine if the calipers are indeed retracting. I checked the lower ball joints as per the hanes manual.there is the slighest bit of play {aprox 1/32" }im not convenced that this is the problem. as i know that more info is better that less,, let me elobrate. a}the car was purchased aprox. 6 mos ago. b}henery {the 82' e28} has over 300,000 miles. c} the front end shimmy is non existent at speeds below 40ish and above speeds above 75mph. also when making a corner at the "shimmy " speed it is not as prononced. d}there is no decernable play anywhere in the front end {compared to another e28 i own} this includes upper and lower balljoints, upper and lower control arm bushings, and tie rods {all "tested" by hanes manual standerds}the "stablizer" bar and links are in and links are in place. e} The tires are showing wear on the inside edges no "feathering" just wears the inside to wear bars while the outside edge show same tread depth as the rears. f}i have replaced the right thrust arm, left thrust arm bushing, left tie rod end {all were wore out},swaped tires and wheels from other e28. g}have not had front end alignment {car goes straight down the road for 100s of feet with no steering input}.h}the steering wheel deflection is aprox 3/8 to 3/4 inch jugin, shakin, shimmin.i} i have replaced both front wheel bearings and hub assys {they were growlin}. well thats is all of the info i can think of please try to decern the problem or let me know what additional data is required. THANKS in advance i remain jeff
